BIC® SOUTH AFRICA CELEBRATES GLOBAL EDUCATION WEEK

BIC’s Global Education Week, now in its fifth year, is an education-based charitable initiative that mobilises the company’s global workforce to help improve learning conditions for learners.

Each year, BIC reimagines its giving strategy to identify and fill operational or financial gaps where it matters most, based on real-time needs in the communities where BIC operates. With inflation persisting and families increasingly under pressure to make their money go further, now more than ever, school supplies need to be dependable and long-lasting. Due to the plight of GR Harris Primary School, BIC chose this school as its beneficiary for donations during Global Education Week.

Through its purpose-led value proposition, the brand aims to improve learning conditions for 250 million students by 2025. Providing learners with the resources they need to remain in school is the mission of BIC. Identifying the school's needs was evaluated through a discussion facilitated between the leading stationery brand and school staff. The items included whiteboards, chalkboards, and diaries. As education is part of BIC's DNA, the school received 32 whiteboards with erasers, 45 400 pens, pencils, crayons, markers, and diaries for every learner.

The handover took place during a special assembly on Thursday, 10 November, which saw BIC’s mascot, BIC Boy, perform a song and dance for the children. Furthermore, the school showcased the children's talent within their respective cultural groups for the BIC team. Currently, 1 091 learners and 34 teachers attend the no-fee school, which receives minimal government support.
